Part 3 Security
Christmas is a time of year when we spend lots of money and unfortunately there are those out there who seek to exploit this. For this section, we’re going to look at ways to prevent this:
Shopping
In the days and weeks in the run up to the festive season, the buying frenzy does kick in. If you are likely to be swept up in this, here are a few pointers
1) As much as possible try to use reputable dealers, be it on the internet or the real world. If you are buying gifts for children and happen to go for “imitation” toys, make sure that they are safe to give to children, particularly young ones. Always keep the receipt
2) When shopping, make sure to keep your wallets, mobiles and other items in sealed/locked pockets or handbags.
3) Try to avoid shopping at “peak times” – instead of Saturday afternoon, what about a weekday after work?
Home Security
Alas, all of that great swag that you gjve and get for Christmas poses a tempting target for potential thieves, add to that the extended time away at parties or even short breaks that pop up around this time of year. Here are a few pointers.
1) When you aren’t in, make sure that windows are secure and doors are locked.
2) When dealing with that mountain of rubbish that the festive season generates, try to avoid having empty boxes on display outside, particularly for things like televisions, games consoles and the like This can give potential thieves a sign post of what’s contained inside.
3) If a loved one treats you to a short break or weekend, be very careful when posting this lovely news online. While your friends or followers might be benign, a few idle words from them in a public place where a third party hears this news might lead to burglars visiting on the dates you are gone.
4) When using Christmas lights etc, make sure that you unplug them when not in use. Also, make sure that your smoke alarm is up to date.
Partying/Out and about
1) Don’t drink and drive.
2) When using public transport, be mindful of seasonal timetables.
3) When using taxi services, particularly ones that have not been booked, make sure that you can see their ID.
4) Know your limits with Alcohol
And that my friends, is that. I hope everyone out there has a fantastic Christmas and I look forward to a Trek Tastic 2019.
