If there was any doubt that people are happy with the sucess of Tr, I think this wonderful news quickly dispels all of that. Patrick Stewart is returning to Star Trek. Not only that, but the announcement came, not at the international media show, where all of the major Hollywood announcements are made these days, the San Diego Comicon, but the comparatively little event for Star Trek fans alone, the annual Las Vegas convention. This is a sign that CBS are beginning to understand the audience. Instead of having a bombshell in a weekend of bombshells, CBS have utilised a ready made platform to get all of the spotlight.

At the moment, there are a lot of unanswered questions about the show – who else is going to be involved, both in front of and behind the camera, when we’re going to get it, and where Picard is in his life. But the exciting news, like an old friend, Picard is returning I believe that this is the biggest return for a Star Trek character since the original series crew made the jump from the TV screen to the cinema screen 40 years ago. Another thing is that this will be the first production primarily set in the post nemesis era. Again, for many, this will be like returning to an old haunt or place you grew up. I’m sure it will look different, but its fantastic to see stories taking place in the future once more.

The interesting thing about this is Picard said that he wouldn’t’ necessarily be the Captain in the new series. So, with that in mind I’m going to take a few moments to play the guessing game, and look at what might be with five concepts for the new Picard series.

1) Back to the Saddle

Its 20 years since the fall of Shinzon. 18 years after the destruction of the Enterprise E by Reman rebels. With his third ship destroyed, Jean Luc Picard faded away into the sunset, becoming an archaeologist, exploring dead worlds, having no desire to see his own culture die with increasing hostilities. However, once again the spark of hope is lit in the galaxy. Picard is given a new ship, the USS Galen, and seeks to explore space while understanding the new factions of the former Romulan Empire.

2) The Resistance.

A deadly race of Alien Parasites have returned to take over Starfleet. Picard and the Enterprise crew faced them almost 40 years ago. But Jean Luc-Picard is ready for this day, and the Vineyard, a secret group Picard created leap into action. Picard becomes president of the Federation, and is vigilant against the new threat at home, meanwhile, the USS Titan continues the mission of exploration, while looking for the origins of this deadly threat.

3) Into the Void

Starfleet has fitted a flotilla of 5 ships with Type 3 Quantum Slipstream drives. Its finest Captain is given command of the fleet who will explore the Andromeda Galaxy meeting brand new aliens and getting to know each other as they venture where no one has truly gone before.
